USN SUPPORTS THE GOES-N MISSION LAUNCH AND EARLY-ORBIT PHASE WITH TELEMETRY, RANGING AND COMMAND SERVICES
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (August 22, 2006) - Universal Space Network, Inc. (USN), a leading provider of space operations and ground control and communications services, announced today that the GOES-N weather satellite, launched May 24th from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, is successfully using the company's telemetry, tracking and command (TT&C) network for telemetry services during the launch and early orbit phase (LEOP) of the GOES-N mission. USN is providing these services under a subcontract to the NASA Near Earth Network Services (NENS) prime contractor Honeywell Technology Solutions, Inc.
The launch and early orbit phase of the mission guides the satellite to its final orbital position and conducts important satellite initialization and check-out procedures. USN's role for GOES-N as part of the Honeywell NENS Team is to supplement the NASA's Ground Network (GN) and Deep Space Network (DSN) during critical satellite tests and maneuvers while providing coverage during schedule conflicts. USN's ground stations in Hawaii and Australia will continue to provide services for the GOES-N mission through July.
"The GOES-N mission is important for USN as it demonstrates our ability to supplement existing NASA infrastructure and to provide a high level of technical service to an important national asset," said Joe Rothenberg, USN President and Chief Customer Service Office. "USN is pleased to be part of the NASA-NENS team that provides seamless, reliable TT&C services for the GOES-N mission."
